CULVER CITY, CALIF. (Mar. 14, 2013) -- On today's episode of JEOPARDY!, business analyst Drew Horwood established his place in the quiz show pantheon by winning his eighth straight game, a milestone that few contestants have reached. Since the removal of the "five-game" rule, only Ken Jennings (74 wins), Dave Madden (19 wins), Jason Keller and Dan Pawson (nine wins each) have won more games than the 23-year-old Horwood, while two other contestants also have won eight games apiece. Tune in tomorrow, March 15, to see if Horwood can build on his streak.
"My goal was just to win one game and that's no easy accomplishment," said Horwood, whose prize winnings currently total $138,100. "I was thrilled to win that much money but what really put me over the top was when Alex Trebek told me that only four people have won more games than I did. The money is great, but the feeling of accomplishment is something that will never go away."
During one of his on-camera interviews with Alex Trebek, Horwood mentioned using his prize money to travel to New Zealand, which remains on the top of the list for how he will spend his winnings.
"I fully intend on following through with that trip," said Horwood. "I also plan on donating some to charity and I'm very excited about paying off my student loans and being debt-free just one year out of college."
Originally from Maple Grove, Minn., Horwood graduated of the University of Minnesota in 2012 with a B.A. in History and a B.S.B. in Supply Chain and Operations Management. He now lives in Minneapolis, and a lifetime spent in Minnesota played a role in his success on the show.
"I was lucky enough to land a question about Prince," said Horwood. "I doubt I'd have been let back into the state if I got that one wrong."
JEOPARDY!, the winner of a 2011 Peabody Award and 30 Emmy Awards, including the 2012 Emmy for Outstanding Game/Audience Participation Program, was inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most awards won by a TV Game Show. The series is the #1-rated quiz show in syndication with 25 million viewers each week. JEOPARDY! is produced by Sony Pictures Television, a Sony Pictures Entertainment Company. It is distributed domestically by CBS Television Distribution and internationally by CBS Television International, both units of CBS Corp.
