Is this the year you step onto the Jeopardy! stage? If every half-hour show leaves you hungry for more clues, you know you’ve got what it takes. That means it’s time to take the step that every contestant takes: signing up for the online test. If you’re ready – and you know you are – we’ve got a few things you should do to help make your test experience a total success.
1. Create Your Account and Register
You can register now – don’t wait until test day! Go to the Be On J! page and click the “Go For It” button, which will prompt you to create or sign in to your MyJeopardy! account and complete the test registration form. Once you’ve registered, you’ll receive a confirmation email within 24 hours. (If you have not received this confirmation, check your email’s spam folder.)
2. Select Your Audition City
Once you’ve registered (or if you already have!), you can log in to your MyJeopardy! account at any time to confirm your registration and select or change your audition city. Audition cities may change from test to test, so make sure you pick the location most convenient for you. You can change your audition city selection up until you submit your test. For more information on using your MyJeopardy! account, click here.
The online test is uniquely designed to assess your response speed, mental flexibility and knowledge all at once. The more comfortable you are with the format, the better you’re likely to perform. That’s where our practice tests come in. They are presented in the same format as our online test and will help you prepare for its timing and configuration. The online test is not a typing test or a spelling exam. Confidence is key, so take the time to know the format and own it.
Another great way to prepare is by playing J!6, our game of bonus clues for every category of that day’s show. Play it every day, track your progress, and study any section that is a struggle for you. Find more ways to prepare for the online test by visiting the Prep Center, and get tips from the J! team.
4. Log In Early on Test Day
You may pick one time to take the online test per three-night event. Up to one hour before the test time, there will be a link on Jeopardy.com that will take you to the online test page. Here, you can launch the test window (and, if you haven’t already, log in with your MyJeopardy! account username and password, which you should keep handy on test day!). We suggest doing this early, as YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO LAUNCH THE TEST AFTER IT BEGINS. You’ll know that you’ve successfully launched the test window when you see the countdown clock for the test start time. The page will look like this:
DO NOT CLOSE THIS WINDOW until you have submitted your completed test. If you close it, your answers will not be saved, you will be locked out of the test, and your dreams of being on the show will be crushed. (Okay, until the next test date. But who wants to wait until then?)

5. Take Your Time During the Test
This is one of the most important tips for taking the actual test. Get your responses in quickly, but we encourage you to take advantage of all the time that’s available to you during the test. At the end of 15 seconds, whatever you have typed into the response field will be captured. And unlike the show, you do not have to respond in the form of a question. Use any extra seconds to recheck the category and make sure that you feel good about your response. It can make a big difference.
So what comes next?
Once you've taken the test, your MyJeopardy! account will be updated and within an hour of completing the test you will receive an email confirming your test has been received. Other than that, you will not need to do anything (although self-congratulation is also completely appropriate). If your scores qualify you, you will be placed in the pool for random selection for an in-person audition. If not, remember many of our greatest champions took the test multiple times before being invited to compete. So stay with it – there's always next time!
