ALEX TREBEK VISITS THE 9/11 MEMORIAL AND MUSEUM

People often ask me if I suggest categories for the show. It doesn't happen that often, but one such category came up on our Thursday, January 29 episode.

Last summer, I was hosting a fundraising event for the American Foundation for the Blind at a hotel in lower Manhattan. I was pleased to discover that the hotel was only a couple of blocks from the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, so my son Matthew and I stopped by to see the facility. Lucky for us, the Director of Security, Lawrence Mannion, noticed us in line and proceeded to take Matthew and me on a very personal, very moving tour of the Memorial.

Immediately after my return to Los Angeles, I suggested to the Jeopardy! producers and writers that we create a category devoted to the Museum and the events before and after September 11. We worked diligently with the team at the Memorial and Museum, and I returned last August to record the category which you will see on January 29.

While one Jeopardy! category cannot do justice to all that is memorialized in the September 11 Memorial and Museum, we hope that it inspires you to perhaps visit it when you are next in New York City. It is a moving experience that will not be soon forgotten.
