I got a job on Howard Dean’s presidential campaign on the strength of my Jeopardy! champion status. I had zero experience with political campaigns or press, but it signaled that I was smart and quick-thinking, so I got to be the press secretary for the Commonwealth of Virginia and Washington, D.C. The winnings also enabled me to take that job, and then to work on the Hill.
