Reigning Jeopardy! champion Scott Riccardi is in "complete disbelief" after notching his seventh victory in a row on Friday.
"Almost every single game, there were points where I was like, 'Okay, it's probably just over now,'" Scott said. "'I don't think I'm going to have the stamina to keep going.'"
However, after a grueling battle against Andrew Wang and Eduareen Muhamad Nor, which ultimately came down to Final Jeopardy!, Scott secured the win with a $400 margin over Andrew. He added $33,000 to the bank and brought his seven-game total winnings to $182,901.
Throughout his run, Scott has made several savvy wagers when he is down to the wire in Final Jeopardy!, a strategy that has proven to be quite successful.
"Whenever I have had a lead, most of the time in Final Jeopardy!, it's been by barely anything," Scott said. "[The Final clues] happened to be ones that I knew because then when you get that, you just have to wager a ton."
However, there was no need for hefty last-minute wagers during Scott's fifth game on Wednesday, when the 26-year-old engineer from Somerville, New Jersey, managed to punch his ticket to the next Tournament of Champions in a runaway.
"I'm definitely intimidated because I know some of these multi-day champions have Quiz Bowl backgrounds, and I only did that kind of thing back in high school," Scott said, discussing the growing player field in the next ToC. "So, like 'Where am I ranked with these people who kind of have all this stuff built in?'"
Nonetheless, Scott said he is excited to be joining the ranks of this season's top players in the prestigious tournament.
"Liam Starnes, he's only 20," Scott said. "It's going to be really cool to see a lot of these young champions going head-to-head."
For fans looking to mirror Scott's success on the show, the seven-game champ, who made it onto the show after his first try on the Anytime Test, offered this simple advice when it comes to starting your contestant journey: "No matter who you are — just do it."
Scott heads into his eighth game on Monday. Tune in to see whether he can keep his momentum going.
